How do I order products for hire?

Our website lists thousands of products for hire. You can search for a specific product, or browse from a range of products within any category. Once you've found the item you're looking for, just click the button to add it to your basket. When you are ready you can click 'View Your Basket' and then click 'Place enquiry'. You will need to register which is very quick. You'll then be provided with a quote based on the items you select, how long you wish to hire them, and the location if you require delivery. If you choose to accept the quote, and you items are to be supplied by The Hire Street, then you can proceed to make a payment via our secure server. If your order is with one of our other suppliers, then the supplier will contact you to arrange for payment. Once the payment is processed, your order is booked in and confirmed.

How do I pay for my hire order?

Once you have received a quote from the supplier, you can accept or reject the quote. If you accept the order and you ordered from The Hire Street then you can click 'Pay Now' on the order to complete the booking. Goods are not reserved until payment is made. Therefore it is advisable to make payment as soon as possible if you are happy with the quotation. If you make a payment but your goods are no longer available you will be given a full refund and informed by The Hire Street. If you ordered from a third party supplier, they will contact you take payment once you have accepted the quotation.

What happens if I add products from multiple suppliers to my basket?

You can add as many products as you like into your basket. When you submit your enquiry, the system will split your basket into multiple quotes, one for each supplier. Then the orders can progress independently.

How do I receive my goods?

When you?re ordering, you can select from two options: delivery or hirer pick up, where the supplier supports both options. Note that some suppliers only allow either delivery or hirer pick up.

If ordering directly from the Hire Street and not a third party supplier when selecting delivery, we may drop off your goods ourselves or use one of the national courier firms, same day couriers, or Royal Mail. Delivery methods depending upon your proximity to us, the size of the goods and your individual preferences. Delivery method and timing can affect the cost of the order, but it is always included in your quotation (there's never any hidden fees).

For hirer pickup, you can collect your goods from the suppliers location provided they allow hirer pick up.

How do I return the goods?

When you're ordering, you can select from two options: supplier collection or hirer drop back.

In the case of ordering directly from The Hire Street and not a third party supplier, and if supplier collection is selected, we may pick up your goods ourselves or use one of the national courier firms, same day couriers, or Royal Mail. Collection methods depend upon your proximity to us, the size of the goods and your individual preferences. Collection method can affect the cost of the order, but it is always included in your quotation (there's never any hidden fees).

If hirer drop back is selected, you can return your goods to the supplier location that's agreed with the supplier.

Why should I hire when I can just buy?

There are many benefits to hiring products rather than buying them: if you only need a product for a short period of time, or for a single use; say, a power tool for a DIY project or a large griddle for a catering event. You can find what you need without committing to a purchase. If a product is continuously upgraded, you won't need to buy a new one for each new model. If space is at a premium, you don't have to worry about storage or maintenance. If a product is outside your purchasing price range, hiring still allows you to use it. The Hire Street provides cost-effective, dependable alternatives to buying products.

What if I can't find the product I'm looking for?

Let us know! We can find it for you. Our product range is expanding every day, and we're always on the lookout for new products to provide to our customers.

What if I need to hire a product right away, or for a really long time?

We're glad to make adjustments to work within your guidelines. Let us know when you need each product and how long you need it for, and we'll email an adjusted quote to fit your specific needs.

What if I'm looking for a product but I'm not sure exactly what model I need?

Ask us! No matter what the situation, our hire experts can determine the best product to suit your needs.

What if my items are faulty?

Let us know immediately. We try to provide the very best customer service. Our products are regularly maintained to remain in excellent condition. Unfortunately despite testing and maintenance we can never guarantee that a product will not fail. Should any product be found defective, however, we'll try to provide you with a replacement if we have the stock, the next day. If you are hiring for an important event is advisable to book your goods to be delivered a few days earlier to check that they work as expected and to familiarise yourself with the equipment. This also gives us time to potentially get you a replacement should the item be defective. If we cannot provide a replacement and provided the fault is not caused by the hirer, we would fully refund you on the faulty hire item. If you have ordered form a third party please check the their policy on dealing with faulty items.

What if I change my mind after ordering?

If you order from The Hire Street and cancel 48 hours before dispatch of your goods, we do not charge any cancellation fee and you are given a full refund. However if cancelling after 48 hours before dispatch then 10% of the full order value is charged. If you order from one of our third party suppliers you would need to check their cancellation terms and conditions.

How do I find out how much an order costs?

Simply add items to your basket and enter a few details; when you need your hire, how long you need it for, and if you require delivery and return collection. The supplier will then generate a quote normally within 24 hours providing they can fulfil the order or may contact you for more information before preparing a quote. The supplier may also reject the quote request if they cannot fulfil the order for any reason.

What if I'm not happy with a quote I received?

You can accept or reject any quote you receive. Even if you request a quote on a special order, you?re not under any obligation to accept it ? the choice is entirely yours.

What forms of payment do you accept?

If you order a product from The Hire Street, you can pay by any of the following credit or debit cards; VISA, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express. We do not currently accept cash payments or cheque payments.

If you order a product from one of our other suppliers, you would need to check their payment terms to see which forms of payment they accept.

How do I pay for an order?

If you order a product from The Hire Street, you can make an online payment using our secure server after accepting the quote and proceeding. Once payment is completed your order is confirmed.

If you order a product from another supplier using our website, the supplier will contact you to arrange for payment.

How do you calculate delivery and collection charges?

We calculate an appropriate delivery and collection charge for each order based on multiple factors, so the charges may not necessarily be at cost. In some cases they may even be at a loss to us. The charges quoted include any selection, packing, cleaning and preparation for the item that may be required. Any cleaning or restocking required when the goods are returned are also included in the quote.

Will I be charged for wear and tear to the product?

Essentially, any item that's used according to the manufacturer's instructions will naturally sustain normal wear in the course of hiring. This is expected, and won't result in any extra charges. If an item is damaged through improper usage, however, customers are responsible for the cost of necessary repairs or full replacements.

Also, while we do not require any deep cleaning of items returned, we do expect them to be free from debris or any liquid substances. Our products are regularly maintained to remain in excellent condition, so returning items in poor or unusable condition will result in extra charges.

Do you charge VAT?

Yes. We are VAT registered and legally obliged to charge VAT.

Can I get a VAT invoice?

Yes. We can provide you with one upon request.

Will you charge VAT even if I am coming from abroad?

Yes. Every order processed in the U.K. is subject to VAT charges.

How can I list my goods for hire as a supplier?

To list goods for hire on The Hire Street, you need to sign up for an account. Once you've provided your basic information and agreed to the terms and conditions of The Hire Street, please email us at info@thehirestreet.co.uk and we can assist you with onboarding your goods.

How much do you charge suppliers?

We charge 10% of the total payment (including delivery/collection charges) capped to a maximum of £150 per order.

How are supplier fees charged?

Supplier fees are only charged on successful hires. We do not charge a listing fee. We charge a flat 10% of the full order value. A successful hire is a transaction where a payment is made. Supplier fees are invoiced at the end of the calendar month. Invoices are due to be paid within 10 days of invoice. They can be paid by credit or debit card or by bank transfer.

As a supplier, how often am I billed?

Suppliers are billed once a month, on the last day of every calendar month, for any supplier fees due.

Will I need to provide ID with my hire order?

Yes, most of our hires will require ID. We can accept the following forms of ID:

  • Drivers Licence
  • Passport
  • Two utility bills

Please note we don't always need the originals. Clear scans or photos will suffice. They must be scans or photos of the entire page. These can then be emailed to us. 

Do I need to provide a deposit for my hire order?

Yes. In most case we will require a deposit for protection against loss or damage. This varies by product this is returned in full upon completion of the hire providing all the items are returned as they were when hired out.

What if I damage the goods I have hired?

You, the hirer are liable for any losses or damages during the hire until items are returned to us. We will charge you for replacement or repair or a discretionary charge.

What if I want to hire a product that is not listed on your website?

We are always working to increase our range of hire items. If there is something you would like to hire but cannot find it listed on our site, let us know and we will look into purchasing the item and adding it to our hire stock if appropriate.

Do you deliver in my area?

We deliver some of our products throughout the UK by national courier. However some products are only available using our own drivers as they are not appropriate to be sent via courier such as crockery and glasses etc. These items are normally only delivered within a 35 mile radius from our depot in High Wycombe. If you would like delivery to a location outside this range then please contact us to discuss. 

Are my hired items insured?

As the hirer of our equipment you are responsible for insuring it against theft, damage and loss. Our equipment hire prices do not include insurance cover. If our equipment is lost or stolen whilst in your care you will be charged the full retail cost for replacement equipment.
